My wife,Rachel, and I hosted a “Tibetan Night” night before Draw Near for the community group we are involved in. Our thinking was that Draw Near was about to kick off and the missionary that we were praying for and sending was going to be leaving soon, and this was just the only time we could do it. At that particular time though, I was anticipating what God would do through Draw Near personally and corporately with the Body of Christ, but I was doing so in a... for lack of a better way of saying it... skeptical way. “Is God really going to use this ‘Draw Near’ thing?” I would think to myself.
You only need to read a few of the blogs on this website to realize that God is up to something significant in Fellowship through Draw Near. But, I was not anticipating what would unfold during that “Tibetan Night” just a few weeks ago. We learned that as Fellowship goes through Draw Near, which is founded on the promise of James 4:8, Tibetans are getting access to the book of James for the first time ever in their own language! They are reading it for the very first time--- no commentaries, no Bible dictionaries, or complete concordances... just the “pure milk of the Word” (I Peter 2:2).
Needless to say, I was humbled at the sovereignty of our Great God. My skeptical arrogance in assessing His plan and workings was unfounded and sinful. So, I repented and really took Draw Near seriously, and it has been wonderful and challenging so far. His ways and thoughts are so much higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9)!
Pray for the Tibetans as they experience James for the first time... that they may accurately interpret and apply the Word by the power and illumination of the Holy Spirit. And, I hope that through this story you might get a glimpse of the magnitude of God’s plan and purpose for Draw Near. I know I did. It’s not just within us or Fellowship or even Northwest Arkansas but also the world. God, by the work of His mighty and gracious hand, is weaving the impact of Draw Near throughout a tapestry of souls all over the globe. What a call to worship Him!
