The most important part of our Draw Near experience is what we bring to it. Our individual times with God will make all the diffference. We often call these times with God “quiet times.” Some of us are used to this spiritual practice; some are not.
While we’re talking about quiet times... can I pause and make an observation? Sometimes the way we think about quiet times is the same way we think about flossing. I mean, how many of us know that flossing is important? Probably everyone. Yet, how many of us actually floss? Exactly... far, far less of us. I find myself flossing at two predictable times. One, when I have problem, like a popcorn kernel stuck in my teeth. And second, right before I go to the dentist. Because I want to look like the model of dental health. We often treat our times with God the same way. We go to God’s Word when we have a problem, And we go to it when we need to look spiritually healthy for something (like our Draw Near group?!).
But our times with God are not like flossing. They are like food. God’s Word is nourishment for our heart and soul. Without it, we perish... gradually. Our most important part of Draw Near is those 5 days of quiet time with God. So, start wherever you are in your spiritual journey... and use this 50 days to go one step further.
