In a recent correspondence with a friend, I ended with the paragraph below. In his reply, he urged me to paste it here. I value this man’s opinion over most, so I’m acquiescing. It is my desire that it adds to someone’s day. I hope all is well for you and your family and that your experience with Draw Near is a strange one. I think when things happen that we don’t expect, we’re either surprised or befuddled. God surprises me every day, it seems. What He doesn’t do is befuddle me on a regular basis. I like to have experiences that are odd and surreal. I like the services where Chip sends us out to see what God sees or rolls a coffin into the Worship Center or sits on stage in silence for moments that yawn wide enough that we truly feel God poking through them. I like the stories that make you wonder what God was thinking or planning. I like David Crowder’s do. I like the strange. When God lays a strange experience along my path, outside of being intriguing and awe-inspiring, it often sticks with me longer and almost always leaves me shaped a bit differently than before. So may your experiences with God, at least now and again, be strange.
