Our group had the privilege of serving at the Children’s Safety Center for our “Beautiful Day.” The first thing you see when you walk through the doors is beautiful, creatively colored hand prints covering all the walls. At first sight, you say “wow… cool… beautiful”. Then we asked Elizabeth, one of the staff, to tell us the work of the CSC. They serve the children of Washington County who have been sexually abused or assaulted. Their services are free of charge and include advocacy, medical exams, counseling and support. Elizabeth told us that after a child has been cared for, they put their hand print on the wall -- over 4000 of them. Knowing this, our thoughts turned to “wow… so many… how tragic… how great it is that this place is here.” It was a privilege to clean, paint and organize the offices of those who serve so beautifully in this tragic, front-line battle.
