I have been attending Fellowship Saturday Night with my wife Kim and my son Logan for about 3 1/2 years. We were/are probably like a lot of other Saturday Night attendees where we attended weekly, worshipped loudly, drank in the Words and left for what life had in store for us that coming week.
Then we repeated the process the following week.

This draw near challenge has been an amazing journey as it has truly opened my eyes, ears and heart more to the Lord in ways that probably wouldn't have been possible without this experience. Reading the daily Scriptures has been something I had not been doing, but through this experience, I have been sitting quietly every morning and reading, questioning and soaking up the Scripture and will continue to, as it is part of what is opening my eyes, ears and heart.

I have been resistant to joining a community group over the last 3 years for various reasons. When this Draw Near experience presented itself, I believe that God spoke to me and said it is time. We have a great group where we all desire to be closer to the Lord and are making strides towards that. Yet, the group is also open and honest about where each is in terms of how "fertile their soil" is and acknowledging what each needs to do to have fertile soil. The group experience has pleasantly taken me by surprise as I am learning from each person and hopefully growing as a man in Christ.

Lastly, I want to talk about how powerful prayer has been. A few weeks ago we found out that a friend of ours had cervical cancer and was facing either a radical hysterectomy or radiation and chemotherapy. I asked the group to pray that the cancer was confined to the cervix and that a hysterectomy would resolve all cancer. The next week, we found out the doctors thought it was contained and proceeded with her surgery. While performing the hysterectomy, the doctors also removed multiple lymph nodes to see if the cancer had spread. I was happy to report to the group last night that the lymph nodes all tested negative and that no radiation or chemo was going to be necessary. I thanked them all and praised the power of prayer.
